  1. TrayDay v5.0b:

  4. DESCRIPTION:
  5. TrayDay places an icon showing the date (day of the month) in the
  6. system tray (the part of the taskbar which includes the clock). The
  7. icon resembles a page of a "tear-off" calendar.
  8.  
  9. You can therefore see the date at a glance - often quicker and easier
  10. than resting your mouse over the clock, searching for an "Insert Date"
  11. menu, or having to reach for your diary. Move the mouse over the icon
  12. and the day of the week will appear.
  13.  
  14. By placing a shortcut to TrayDay.exe in your startup folder, you
  15. can have the date always available. (Hint: Using the Explorer, right
  16. click and drag trayday.exe; drop into the startup folder; choose create
  17. shortcut from the popup menu.)
  18.  
  19. Double click on the icon with the left mouse button to copy the date
  20. to the clipboard, ready for pasting into an application. The format can
  21. be short or long date as defined in the Regional Settings of your
  22. Control Panel, or user-defined. Select "Options" from the menu dis-
  23. played by right-clicking the icon; select "Help" from the Options
  24. dialog for further information. Note the user-defined character unique
  25. to TrayDay: include "D" in your user format to give the ordinals
  26. "1st", "2nd", "3rd" etc.

  28. This copy function is also available by selecting "Copy Date" from the
  29. menu which appears if you right-click the icon; this also enables you
  30. to select the date format without changing the options.
  31.  
  32. If the "Auto-Insert" option is selected, the date is copied to the
  33. clipboard AND pasted into your application at the insertion point -
  34. when you double-click the TrayDay icon or select "Insert Date". So
  35. with your favourite word processor running, simply double-click the
  36. icon and the date is "typed in" for you. [Note that this does not
  37. function in a dialog box, or in a window with no "Edit/Paste" menu
  38. item. If the date does not appear, press Ctrl-V to paste it from the
  39. clipboard manually.]

  41. *** New since version 5.0 is a choice of icon background. Select
  42. "White" and the calendar "paper" will be white, "Gray" for pale gray, 
  43. or select "Transparent" for the colour of the tray itself to show
  44. through. If "Transparent" is selected, icon text changes to black;
  45. this option may be particularly useful if you have chosen a non-gray
  46. taksbar. ***

  48. Because other applications may add icons to the system tray, the
  49. TrayDay icon may move further away from the clock (assuming that you
  50. have your taskbar either at the top or bottom of the screen). Select
  51. "Shift Icon" from the right click menu, to move the icon to beside the
  52. clock. Under options - startup behaviour - you can choose to have
  53. TrayDay shift the icon automatically 1 minute after starting. This is
  54. particularly useful if TrayDay is in your startup folder with other
  55. applications: the order in which icons are added to the tray is diffi-
  56. cult to determine. Choosing this option gets round this by moving the
  57. icon to the clock after other applications have loaded. [Note that this
  58. paragraph applies only to the Registered version.]

  60. Other menu items are Register (see below), and Exit.

  64. TO INSTALL:
  65. Copy TrayDay.exe and this Readme.txt to a new folder; for convenience
  66. you could call this folder "TrayDay".
  67.  
  68. TO REGISTER:
  69. TrayDay is a shareware program. If you like TrayDay and wish to use
  70. it for longer than 28 days, you should register; this will also enable
  71. the "shift icon" function mentioned above.
  72.  
  73. To register you should send 15 US dollars or 10 UK Pounds (sterling) as
  74. a cheque payable to Martin McKean. Upon receiving payment, a registr-
  75. ation code will be sent or e-mailed to you. Include with the payment
